"When I first started making alebrijes more than ten years ago, it used to take me ten days to create one piece! Nowadays it takes me 3-4 hours to make a medium sized alebrije". Enrique Egea's alebrijes are made from recycled products -newspaper, egg cartons, wire. "I've given each piece a special name: famous actors or actresses, a loved family member, places I'd like to visit...the names come to mind as I mold the shape of the piece and give it its unique personality with the colors I choose to use".
