Paper Mache Alebrijes
Paper Mache Alebrijes

Crafting paper mache alebrijes doesn't seem very difficult; what it does look like is a sloppy job!
Recycled newspaper and egg cartons are moistened with water and then beat to a fine pulp. This mixture is then mixed with glue making a paste much like that of the dough used when baking. The artisan then molds a creative shape with old wire, covers it with dry newspaper and then layers it with the gummy gluey paste. The piece is then allowed to dry and is decorated with acrylics.
Crafting a medium sized paper mache alebrije may take up to two weeks -drying time allowed. Not including wait time, a medium sized piece takes about 3-4 hours to make from start to finish.
